GROWING TOGETHER
What is Bettaland Compost?
Bettaland compost and top soil conditioners are made from the decomposition of locally sourced plant and vegetable matter. This green waste and plant matter is processed under carefully controlled conditions which are defined by the British Standards Institute Publicly Available Specification (BSI PAS 100) and provide verification that Bettaland Compost is of a safe and consistently high quality.
Bettaland Compost is also registered as an Annex 2 product with the Soil Association allowing the product to be used in organic systems.
Our product is peat free, chemical free and made from 100% recycled source material

The benefits of Bettaland Compost
Organic matter is essential for maintaining soil quality. Under modern land management techniques soil fertility is in decline, this can be improved by adding compost. The many benefits of compost include :
Feature
Build and maintain soil structure
Provide essential nutrients
Increase soil temperature
Improve water holding capacity
Increase microbial activity
Reduce compaction
Provide an attractive finish
|
Benefit
Improve plant survival, establishment and growth
Reduce labour and cost of fertiliser application
Boost early season growth
Reduce cost and labour required for irrigation
Suppress plant disease
Reduce labour costs involved in cultivation
Increase to aesthetic value of the work

WHEN TO USE BETTALAND COMPOST
Bettaland compost contains significant quantities of plant nutrients and acts as a slow release fertilizer, sustaining plant growth over long periods.
Spring application
Amending the soil with compost in spring will create an ideal soil structure and provide a burst of nutrients for strong early growth.
Application as mulch helps suppress weeds throughout the growing season and will continue fertility and water holding capacity.
Summer application
Compost added during the summer can help suppress weeds and some plant diseases, as well as continuing to help fertility and water holding capacity.
Autumn application
Unlike chemical fertilisers, Bettaland compost reduces the leaching of nutrients from the soil. This is both good for the local environment and soil health, and means that Bettaland compost can be used in the autumn as the risk of leaching is minimised.
HOW TO USE BETTALAND COMPOST
General Mulching
Mulching suppresses weeds, reduces moisture loss and prevents soil erosion by reducing the impact of rain splash and run-off. Therefore, as well as reducing the cost of labour of watering and weeding, Bettaland mulch can be used to stabilise banks and sloping beds.
Apply the mulch evenly on the surface of the garden bed or around the trees and shrubs creating a continuous mat of compost mulch. Compost should be applied to a depth of 50mm - 100mm and applied closely around the trunk or main leader of the plant but not against it.
Bettaland mulches will overtime become incorporated into the soil, acting as a soil conditioner and improving the soils physical and biological properties.
Soil Amelloration
All types of soil benefit from Bettaland Compost which typically should be applied at 50mm and incorporated into the top 150mm of soil.
Before application we recommend a soil analysis is carried out to maximise the benefits of the compost
