6 children from Year 5 with a little help from the caretaker enjoyed the morning digging to plant the tree in the school grounds. They stated, "This is a little bit different than sitting in the class room doing literacy! We will ensure that we water it every day and watch it grow while we are at the school and then our brothers and sisters can enjoy it".

Kirsty Martin, Peterborough City Council's senior waste education officer, said: "This was a successful morning and the children were thrilled with their wining prize from entering into the recycled Christmas tree competition and keeping to the rules, which they have now learnt a valuable lesson. Their enthusiasm throughout the morning was exceptional and this is something which can be driven further into their schools, community and home, to encourage others on environmental issues."
